Variety information management at Agrico with Mercado

Agrico is a global leader in developing potato varieties and marketing high-quality seed and table potatoes. With more than 76 varieties tested and sold worldwide, the company plays a significant role in global potato cultivation. Agrico has been working with AIP’s Mercado since 2020. Mercado made it possible to optimize variety information management, leading to positive results

The complexity and necessity of effective variety information management

Managing variety information is a complex task, especially for a global organization like Agrico. With 12 locations, exports to over 80 countries, and collaborations with more than 60 international partners, it is crucial that variety information is consistently, accurately, and faultlessly available. Previously, the team worked with various Excel files, which led to an increased risk of errors. Additionally, this information needed to be uniformly shared across various marketing channels such as websites, flyers, and catalogs. This required a more efficient and structured approach.

Optimal variety information management thanks to Mercado

With the introduction of Mercado, Agrico found a solution to these challenges. Mercado serves as the central source for all variety information, also known as the “single source of truth”. Thanks to the Variety Trials module and the Mercado Trials app, observations can be recorded and managed globally in a uniform manner.

While streamlining the data entry process, Mercado still allows users the flexibility to adapt to specific situations when necessary. This approach has not only improved data management but also drastically reduced the risk of errors. Additionally, Mercado ensures that all marketing materials, from variety catalogs to international publications, are always up-to-date and accurate.

The benefits of Mercado

  • Consistent and error-free variety information: Thanks to the central database, data is efficiently collected and shared.
  • Improved marketing materials: All materials, such as catalogs and flyers, are generated quickly and accurately.
  • Efficient data entry: Observations globally are recorded uniformly and systematically through the Mercado Variety Trials app.
  • Reduced risk of errors: The switch from Excel to Mercado has brought greater reliability to data management.

A successful collaboration

Charon Spring-Dijkstra, Product Management Support at Agrico, says:
“For sharing variety information, Mercado is perhaps the most important application within Agrico, as it is used as the single source of truth. Thanks to Mercado, we can always share the correct data and represent our varieties well worldwide.”

The partnership between Agrico and Agri Information Partners has not only led to more efficient data management but also to further innovation within Mercado itself. The knowledge exchange between both parties contributes to the continuous improvement of the software.

Growing together: Good Growth

This collaboration reflects Agrico’s motto: “Good Growth.” Thanks to Mercado, Agrico can continue to grow and contribute to a better future for global potato cultivation.
