Tozer Seeds, a leading family-owned vegetable breeding company based in the UK, sought the expertise of AIP Business Consultants’ expertise to implement their new ERP system. With offices in the US, Netherlands, and Spain, Tozer Seeds markets its seeds globally and runs breeding programs for various crops like celery, parsnip, kale, Brussels sprouts, leek, and onion.
In 2017, Tozer Seeds selected SAP Business One (SAP B1) to replace their existing logistical and financial systems. However, during the initial implementation, it became clear that the implementation partner had not fully understood the specific requirements of seed breeding processes, raising doubts about the suitability of the chosen solution.
To address these concerns, Tozer Seeds engaged AIP as an independent advisor with expertise in ERP systems and seed breeding. Our team, including Wim Horstman and Evert Keuken, conducted a thorough analysis at Tozer’s headquarters in Cobham, Surrey, and identified the need to redefine project goals and scope, particularly around product specifications and batch processing.
Based on the revised requirements, AIP requested the implementation partner to deliver a Proof of Concept (PoC). We provided comprehensive documentation, detailing the seed breeding processes from breeding to marketing, to ensure accurate testing of the ERP system’s capabilities.
The PoC revealed that the standard SAP B1 solution did not meet Tozer Seeds’ needs. AIP recommended exploring alternative SAP B1 implementation partners and guided Tozer through a rigorous selection process. Recognizing the limitations of the traditional waterfall approach, AIP introduced the Scrum methodology to ensure better alignment and involvement from Tozer’s team throughout the project.
Our consultants provided Scrum training and convinced the partner to switch from a traditional approach to Scrum, resulting in a more flexible and efficient implementation process. This led to a successful and smooth ERP implementation tailored to Tozer Seeds’ unique requirements.
