A fruitful Breeding Information Seminar 2017!

12 May 2017

On April 6th Agri Information Partners hosted the “Breeding Information Seminar 2017.” The core focus of this seminar was data streams in the plant breeding industry, with two main topics:

Digital phenotyping is on the rise and can take different forms: from hyperspectral cameras and thermal imaging, to laser beams. Bas van Eerdt (Phenokey) immersed us into the developments within this sector. So too did Bert Rijk (Aurea Imaging), but specifically focussed on digital phenotyping with drones (see attached picture): take a drone, load it up with sensors, and the ability to phenotype enormous stretches of trial lands (on the basis of mathematical models) presents itself.

Data without the capacity for one to look through this data in a comprehensive and critical manner, is of course fairly useless in itself. That is why we envision our breeding software E-Brida as the central point of convergence of all these data streams. Phenotyping information, observations, lab and sequencing data, and so forth. By using E-Brida as a data center, the breeder enables him or herself to actually use all these data for actual decision support concerning the improvement of his or her crops.

In the end, however, there is one thing that is irreplaceable. The driver of all innovation: the breeder’s brain.

A very warm thank you to all our customers, other interested seminar visitors and of course Barenbrug for providing us with a trial field for the drone demo.

We hope to see you all at the next iteration of the Breeding Information Seminar!
