Project Fenovatie: optimal integration of digital phenotyping with E-Brida

Project Fenovatie: optimal integration of digital phenotyping with E-Brida

Agri Information Partners contributes as a knowledge partner to the Fenovatie project. This collaboration focuses on developing integrated digital phenotyping processes. The European Union supports the project financially through the European Regional Development Fund (EFRO).

Project Fenovatie

“Fenovatie” represents a forward-looking approach in which technological advancement and practical applicability go hand in hand. The project focuses on the digital, fast, and precise measurement of plant traits such as stem length, leaf size, and disease resistance. Sensors, imaging technology, and AI collect this data at scale with high accuracy and objectivity.

Digital phenotyping is a key development for the future of plant breeding. Thanks to collaboration with two breeding companies based in the Dutch province of Gelderland, the practical applicability of this technology is ensured. The project receives financial support from the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (EFRO). This funding helps make this ambitious initiative possible. Furthermore, it supports ongoing collaboration with breeding companies.

E-Brida as the Central Platform

Within the Fenovatie project, we are working on the most effective integration between digital phenotyping systems and our breeding software, E-Brida. Through smart integrations, we enable breeding companies to seamlessly consolidate their data and translate it into actionable insights. E-Brida serves as a central platform where all data comes together, supporting data-driven decision-making throughout the breeding process.

Knowledge Partner in Digital Phenotyping

As a strategic IT partner in the plant breeding value chain—from R&D to certification—we contribute our expertise in software development, system integration, and process optimization to this project. Our IT specialists and consultants are not only involved in building technical solutions but also provide strategic guidance on implementing digital phenotyping.

We closely monitor developments in this field. Moreover, we actively translate them into practical applications for our clients. This includes support in setting up and integrating digital phenotyping into breeding programs. Not only with the right tools, but also with guidance on implementation, adoption, and process design. Additionally, digital phenotyping also holds valuable potential for applications in quality monitoring, production, and logistics.

Contributing to Future-Proof Breeding

Fenovatie runs for three years, starting in 2024, in Gelderland. It is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

The project benefits the entire sector. As a result, making high-throughput phenotyping more widely available accelerates the selection process for new varieties. It also makes resource use more efficient, benefiting yield, sustainability, and food security.

This project is made possible with support from the European Union through the Europees Fonds voor Regionale Ontwikkeling (EFRO).
